Global crude steel production surged 5% in November

 According to the most recent statistics published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by 66 member countries was 132.402 million tonnes (Mt) in November this year, rising by 5.0% in comparison with the production of 126.114 Mt during same month a year before.

South America

The crude steel production by South American countries dropped significantly during the month of November this year. The total monthly output declined by 8.10% to 3.184 Million tonnes.

The total crude steel production by Argentina during November was 365,000 tonnes, down considerably by 9.8% in comparison with the November 2015 production of 405,000 tonnes. Brazil produced 2.426 Million tonnes of crude steel, lower by 4.8% when compared with 2.548 Million tonnes production achieved during November last year. Chile’s November crude steel production dropped sharply by nearly 10.7% to 90,000 tonnes in November this year. The total crude steel production by Colombia was down by 16.3% to 105,000 tonnes in November this year.

Ecuador’s crude steel output dropped significantly by nearly 40% on year-on-year basis. The crude steel output by Ecuador was 45,000 tonnes in November this year, down when compared with 75,000 tonnes during November last year.  Paraguay’s crude steel output plunged heavily by 61% during the month.

The crude steel output by Peru recorded modest rise of 10.6% year-on-year. The crude steel output of Uruguay witnessed decline of 43% when compared with the year before levels. Venezuelan production dropped considerably by nearly 60% year-on-year from 100,000 tonnes to just around 40,000 tonnes.

North America

The crude steel production by North American countries increased significantly by 6.5% during the month of November year-on-year. The production totaled 8.844 Mt during the month.

The total crude steel production by Canada during November this year was 930,000t, slightly lower by 3.4% when compared with the November 2015 production. The US produced 6.226 Million tonnes of crude steel, higher by 6.8% when compared with 5.832 Million tonnes production achieved during November 2015. The total crude steel production by Mexico edged higher by nearly 20% from 1.364 Mt in November ‘15 to 1.635 Mt in November this year.

The Cuban crude steel production decreased sharply by around 31% year-on-year to 20,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was estimated at 8,000 tonnes in November this year, down by over 37% when compared with November last year. Guatemala produced 25,000 tonnes in November. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago nosedived to zero in November this year from 62,000 tonnes during same month the previous year.

Asia

The crude steel production by Asia rose by 4.7% during the month of November 2016 year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by China during November was 66.290 Million tonnes, rising by 5.0% when compared with the production of 63.133 Mt during November 2015. India produced 8.010 Million tonnes of crude steel, higher by 10.7% when compared with 7.234 Million tonnes production achieved during November last year.

Japan reported marginal decline of 1.4% in monthly crude steel output during the month. Japan's crude steel output was down from 8.740 Million tonnes in November 2015 to 8.618 Million tonnes in the same month this year.

South Korean crude steel production dropped slightly by 1.3% from 5.847 Million tonnes in November 2015 to 5.770 Million tonnes in November this year. Meantime, Pakistan’s crude steel output totaled 280,000 tonnes during the month.

The Taiwanese Nov ‘16 crude steel output rose 16.5% year-on-year to 1.765 Million tonnes from 1.515 Million tonnes during same month last year. Also, Thailand’s crude steel output increased by 38% from 246,000 tonnes during November last year to almost 340,000 tonnes this year.

Africa

The crude steel production by the African region marked 7.2% jump during the month of November year-on-year.

Egypt produced 428,000 tonnes of crude steel, surging higher by 6.2% when compared to 403,000 tonnes production achieved during November 2015. Libya’s crude steel output surged to 45,000 tonnes during the month of November this year, when matched with the production of 36,000 tonnes during the same month a year before. Morocco’s output surged almost 67% to 50,000 tonnes, when compared to 30,000 tonnes production achieved during November 2015. South Africa’s crude steel output increased marginally by 3.1% to 498,000 tonnes during the month when matched with the production figures of 483,000 tonnes during the same month a year before.

Other regions

The crude steel production by the Middle East region skyrocketed by over 43% during the month of November ’16 year-on-year. EU-28 region recorded marginal increase of 2.6% in crude steel output during November this year. The output by the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) too increased by 4.2% during the month. Also, Oceania region recorded 8.5% jump in output.
