The latest production statistics published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) indicates that the crude steel production by 66 countries reporting to the Association totaled 141.43 Million tonnes during the month of September this year. The monthly crude steel output surged higher by 5.6% when compared with the previous year. The cumulative production by world countries during the first nine months of the year totaled 1.267 billion metric tons.
The following table provides the list of world’s top ten producers of crude steel during the month of September this year.

The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association suggests that the production of direct reduced iron (DRI) by world countries has declined slightly by nearly 1.2% in September, over the previous year. The production totaled 5.325 million metric tons (Mt), as compared with 5.387 Mt during the prior month.
Iran continued to be the leading DRI producer with estimated output of 1.985 Mt. The country’s output dropped marginally when compared with the previous month. India’s DRI output totaled 1.190 Mt, declining marginally from 1.231 Mt in August. The Mexican output totaled 485,000 metric tons during the month. The monthly output by other eleven DRI producing countries in metric tons are: Canada (147), Saudi Arabia (472), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (103), Peru (Nil), Venezuela (50), Egypt (336), Libya (20), South Africa (78), Qatar (230) and United Arab Emirates (229).
The below table lists the world’s top ten DRI producing nations during the initial nine-month period of the current year.
