Taiwanese container scrap moves sideways

Taiwan’s market for US container scrap imports has drifted slightly down from last week, Kallanish notes.

Taiwanese mills are bidding for container HMS 1&2 80:20 from the US at $335-338/tonne cfr. This week a leading mill is bidding at $335/t cfr, down $3/t from a week ago. The market has been moving sideways within a narrow band of up to $3/t above $335/t cfr since early July.

US-origin container HMS 1&2 80:20 scrap was assessed by Kallanish on Wednesday at $335-338/t cfr Taiwan compared to the previous week’s $337-338/t cfr.

Earlier this week, leading Taiwanese EAF mill Feng Hsin Iron & Steel maintained both its weekly scrap procurement prices and domestic rebar prices. The mill’s nominal purchase price for HMS 1 scrap is unchanged at TWD 9,900/t in Taichung. The mill’s rebar list price for #5 (5/8 inches or 15.875mm nominal diameter base) rebar is flat at TWD 18,500/t ex-works.
