Mobarakeh Steel (MSC) plans to increase the tonnage of automotive sheet it supplies to Iranian carmaker Iran Khodro in order to mitigate the effect of economic sanctions. This is according to MSC deputy sales and marketing director Mahmoud Akbari.
In the Iranian year through 20 March 2018 MSC’s Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Automotive Sheets Company subsidiary supplied 367,000 tonnes of steel to Iran Khodro, of which 100,000t was hot-dip galvanized sheet. This is expected to increase to 400,000t and 120,000t respectively in the Iranian year through 20 March 2019.
In the four months through 22 July MSC delivered 2.03 million tonnes of steel to the Iranian domestic market, up 8% on-year. Of this tonnage, 544,000t was delivered to pipe and profile producers, up 42% on-year.
Four-month steel exports, meanwhile, reached 459,613t (see Kallanish passim). Crude steel output reached 3.18mt and direct reduced iron output totalled 2.58mt.
