Mobarakeh Steel (MSC) chief executive Bahram Sobhani has been elected chairman of the Iranian Steel Producers’ Association (ISPA) following the resignation of Mahmoud Islamiyan. This is according to a note on the ISPA’s online Chilan portal.
Yazd Rolling Mill ceo Bahador Ehramian has been named vice chairman. The other members of the board are Asadollah Farshad, Seyyed Hossein Ahmadi, Ehsan Dashtyaneh, Sayed Reza Shahrestani and Nader Soleimani.
MSC accounted for 764,196 tonnes of crude steel output in the in the month through 22 August among Iran’s seven largest steelmakers that produced 1.56 million tonnes (see Kallanish passim). The firm said last month it plans to increase the tonnage of automotive sheet it supplies to Iranian carmaker Iran Khodro in order to mitigate the effect of economic sanctions.
In the four months through 22 July Iranian billet exports rose 35% on-year to 1.27mt, while slab shipments increased 2% to 1.22mt, according to ISPA data. Rebar consumption increased 5% to 1.99mt but hot rolled coil consumption fell -5% to 2.52mt. Finished steel production rose 10% to 6.98mt.
