Iranian HRC export growth slows

Iranian hot rolled coil exports surged 161% on-year in the five months through 22 August to 379,000 tonnes, according to newly-published Iranian Steel Producers’ Association (ISPA) data monitored by Kallanish. This represented a slowdown from 293% growth after four months. Five-month apparent HRC consumption fell -4% to 3.19 million tonnes, but imports were also down -67% to 130,000t.

Coated sheet exports, meanwhile, soared 182% in the five months to 62,000t, while their consumption fell -13% to 670,000t and imports declined -9% to 126,000t.

Five-month rebar exports increased 92% to 507,000t. This was also the only finished product to record consumption growth, of 9% to 2.53mt.

Iranian five-month billet export growth slowed from the four-month figure, but slab accelerated and direct reduced iron turned from negative to positive growth (see Kallanish passim).
