Tenova to build galvanising line for Vietnamese steelmaker

Southern Steel Sheet Company Ltd (SSSC) has awarded Italian plant builder Tenova the contract to build a third galvanising line at its Nhon Trach plant in Vietnam.

The latest contract is a direct result of past work carried out at the plant back in 2013 when Tenova built the Vietnamese steelmaker’s galvanising line number two and a colour coating line, both at the same plant as the third line.

SSSC is a joint venture between Vietnam Steel Corporation and foreign partners Sumitomo Corporation (Japan) and FIW Steel Snd. Bhd of Malaysia.

On completion, the new fully automated line will produce 150kt/yr of high quality galvanised coils, claims Tenova, and will use both hot and cold-rolled coils.

According to Tenova Metals’ CEO Roberto Pancaldi, “SSSC Vietnam has been co-opeating with Tenova since 2011, and this collaboration has led to successful projects. Our proactive attitude to provide continuous service to SSSC was paramount to their decision to assign us a new contract.”

Pancaldi said that SSSC will be targeting both the domestic and international market in response to increased demand for high-quality coated coils.

The new galvanising line represents the third of its kind made by Tenova in recent years, including a cold mill complex currently underway at Pomina Flat Steel in the Phu My region of South Vietnam.
