Brazilian distribution sector flats imports fall in October

Flat steel imports by Brazilian distributors fell year-on-year and month-on-month in October, Kallanish learns from data issued by the country's national distributors' association, Inda.

During October, imports of flat steel reached 48,800t, down -58.6% y-o-y and -57.7% less when compared to September.

Flat product sales from distributors and service centres in Brazil however rose in October. These reached 268,500 tonnes or 0.6% more compared to 267,000t in the same month of 2017 and up by 4.1% versus September, Inda data show.

Brazilian flat products' purchases rose by 3.7 y-o-y to 267,000t in October. This volume also represents an increase of 9.3% on September.

Despite the positive October sales performance, the association is forecasting both sales and purchases to decline by almost -12% in November.
