Turkish exporters eye strong 2019 after surpassing target

The Turkish Steel Exporters Association (CIB) anticipates another successful year in 2019. This comes after Turkish steel exports rose 19.8% on-year in January-November to 19.3 million tonnes, already surpassing CIB’s target for full-year 2018. 11-month export value rose 37% to $14.1 billion.

In November alone exports surged 61% on-year to 2.5mt, while their value was up 56% to $1.7 billion.

CIB chairman Adnan Aslan points out that export growth was achieved despite protectionist measures in various countries. Notwithstanding the growth, Turkish exporters want to increase shipments to Southeast Asia, West Africa and South America, he adds.

Hot rolled coil and wire rod exports, especially, have been strong throughout 2018, while rebar exports recovered from a poor first half-year to soar in the third quarter (see Kallanish passim).
