Khouzestan Steel sets production record

Khouzestan Steel (KSC) produced over 2.8 million tonnes of semi-finished steel in the nine months through 21 December, setting a new record for this period, Kallanish learns from Iran’s second-largest steelmaker.

The firm also produced 4.72mt of iron ore pellet and 2.8mt of direct reduced iron in the nine months.

KSC said last month it was prepared to accept an increase in export costs and change in contracts in order to maintain shipments abroad in the face of economic sanctions on Iran (see Kallanish passim). The firm also said it expected to reach semi-finished steel exports of 2mt in the Iranian year through 20 March 2019. In the seven months through 22 October KSC exported 1.34mt of steel.

The crude steel production target for the current Iranian year is 3.8mt.
