Italian wire rod prices are remaining generally steady compared to beginning of April but the low point of the range has lost some €5/tonne ($5.6/t), Kallanish learns from market sources.
Prices are now hovering at €500-510/t ex-works on average for the basic quality material, sources suggest.
The month of April has seen a downturn in domestic sales which has been offset by good export volumes. However, producers are satisfied about the general performance of both volumes and prices for wire rod in the first quarter. At the current prices, margins are considered satisfactory, sources say.
The market is quietening this week as most contracts have been closed before the upcoming Easter break, Kallanish notes.
