The US Department of Commerce has made affirmative, preliminary decisions in its countervailing duty cases concerning structural steel from Canada, China, and Mexico, Kallanish reports.
The wide-ranging cases cover a variety of fabricated structural steel products.
The department has preliminarily found subsidy margins of 30.3-177.43% on structural steel products from China and 0.001-74.01% on products from Mexico (see related article).
The US did not find significant evidence of subsidies on structural steel goods from Canada.
The petitioners in the case are the members of the American Institute for Steel Construction – including major market players like Gerdau and Steel Dynamics Inc.
The department estimates that the US imported about $722.5 million in structural steel from Canada in 2018; $897.5m from China; and $622.4m from Mexico.
