Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS) has confirmed the start-up of its third rolling mill at the site, dedicated to the production of wire rod, Kallanish learns.
The line was supplied by Danieli and hot-tests were initiated in March this year. With this new line operational the mill can now produce 1.5 million tonnes/year of rebar and 500,000t/y of wire rod. The first two rolling mills for rebar were launched in October 2017 and May 2018.
AQS currently feeds its rolling lines with imported billet, but the company is also building a meltshop and a direct reduced iron plant expected to have a capacity of 2.5m t/y.
