Iran three-month finished steel output grows, slab declines

Iranian finished steel production rose 16% on-year in the three months through 21 June, or first quarter of the Iranian year, to 5.27 million tonnes, Kallanish learns from the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).

Hot rolled coil output increased 9% to 2.29mt and rebar production surged 21% to 2.06mt. Cold rolled and coated coil production were up 15% and 23% respectively to 650,000t and 428,000t. Sections output was up 22% to 301,000t.

Semi-finished products output, meanwhile, grew 5% in the three months to 6.64mt. This came despite an -8% drop in slab output to 2.7mt and was driven by a 17% increase in billet production to 3.94mt.

Direct reduced iron production increased 10% in the quarter to 7.27mt.

According to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (Imidro), Iran’s major miners saw iron ore concentrate output rise 4% in the quarter to 12.21mt (see Kallanish passim).
