World’s Topmost Crude Steel Making Countries in H1 2019

The latest monthly production statistics published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) indicates that crude steel output by the 64 countries reporting to it has surged higher significantly during the month of June this year. The above countries had accounted for approximately 99% of the total world crude steel production in 2018.

According to worldsteel, the global crude steel production totaled 158.978 million tonnes (Mt) in June 2019, higher by 4.6% when compared with the year before. The steel output by these countries had totaled only 152.002 Mt in the same month a year before. Incidentally, China-the world’s largest crude steel producer reported 10% surge in output year-on-year. The country accounted for more than 55% share of total global production during the month.

The cumulative output totaled 925.064 Mt in the initial six-month period of the year. This compares with the output of 882.005 Mt in Jan-June ’18. China continued to be the world’s largest producer, accounting for more than 53% of the total global steel output. The Chinese production totaled 492.169 Mt from January to June this year.
