The European Commission (EC) announced to launch a new investigation into the question of China's slight change in exported steel grades to evade anti-dumping (AD) duties.
Those modifications included adding a thin oil coating onto the products or increasing the content of carbon, aluminum and titanium.
The EC said Chinese manufacturers didn't have other economic reasons to modify the products except to evade the AD tariffs started from 2018.
The EC imposed the AD duties of 17.2% to 27.9% on some corrosion-resistant steels from China since February 2018 to respond to unfair competition at low prices. The companies included Hesteel, Jiangsu Shagang Group, and companies under Shougang Group.
