The monthly crude steel production by 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) registered marginal decline by 1.0% year-on-year in November this year.
The global steel production totalled 147.791 million tonnes (Mt) during the month, when matched with the production of 149.356 Mt recorded during the same month a year before. The world crude steel production had recorded 2.8% year-on-year decline in the month of October too.
All major regions except Asia and Oceania posted output decline. The Asian region managed to increase its output by 1.6%, mainly on account of 4% surge in output by China- the world’s largest steel producer. The country accounted for more than 54% of the global production. The output by the Oceania region surged higher significantly by 7% over the previous year.
The African crude steel production slumped by almost 24%, whereas the South American output registered a decline of 10.2% over November 2018. The European output was down sharply by 10.7%. The CIS and North American regions witnessed decline in output by 4.0% and 3.6% respectively, worldsteel monthly production statistics said. The U.S. production edged lower by 2.2%.
The cumulative steel output by world countries during the initial eleven months of the current year stood higher by 2.7%, upon comparison with the year before. The output increased year-on-year from 1.640 billion tonnes to 1.684 billion tonnes.
