China 2007 steel product exports 62.65 mln tons, imports 16.87 mln

China exported 62.65 mln tons of steel products in 2007, up 45.8 pct, while imports fell 8.8 pct to 16.87 mln tons, industry website Mysteel.com reported, citing figures from the General Administration of China Customs.

In December, China exported 4.78 mln tons of steel products, down 13.9 pct from a year earlier, while imports stood at 1.33 mln tons. No comparative figure for imports was given.

Imports of steel billet in 2007 fell 34.6 pct to 240,000 tons, with December imports at 30,000 tons, while exports of steel billet last year decreased 28.9 pct to 6.43 mln tons, with 130,000 tons exported in December.

China exported 15.3 mln tons of coke last year, up 5.8 pct year-on-year, with 970,000 tons shipped in December.

The country also imported 383.09 mln tons of iron ores in 2007, up 17.4 pct year-on-year. It imported 34.2 mln tons of iron ores last month. No comparative figures were given.
