Malaysia leading Asean exporter to Germany
Malaysia has overtaken Singapore as the leading Asean exporter to Germany, with the two-way trade surging 22% in the first three quarters of 2007.
According to the European Statistics Office (Eurostats), Malaysia's exports reached US$3.5bil compared with Singapore's US$2.5bil and Indonesia's US$2.65bil.
Malaysia has been able to increase its exports like rubber, footwear, furniture and wood products.
Exports of Japanese brand TV sets manufactured in Malaysia have also increased, according to Raja Badrul Nizam Raja Kamalzaman, the Cologne-based Malaysian trade commissioner in Germany.
"Our exports of electrical and electronic products have also increased because these items are needed for German finished electrical and electronic products whose exports have gone up,'' he said.
