Tight billet supply in Asia boosts the price up
Currently, Asian steel billet price increased dramatically.
It’s said that Vietnam’s
billet import price has increased to US$860/ton C&F.
On the other hand, China has stopped offering the
quotation, and the government has increased the export tax on steel billets to
36 percent. Taiwan
mills temporarily constrained billet export from March to June. Mills in CIS
have become the main billet suppliers in South East Asia.
The mills complaint that the market price cannot offset high
billet and production cost. Meanwhile, China offers Q235 billet for
domestic market at US$674/ton.
