POSCO ranks 5th in world's most admired company list

POSCO (Pohang Iron and Steel Co.,) the world biggest steel-maker based in Korea was selected the fifth most admired company in the world in the metal industry.

Global business magazine Fortune, in its survey of the World’s Most Admired Companies gave POSCO 6.48 points, following Arcelormittal (7.74), Nippon Steel (6.87), Thyssen Krupp (6.76) and Alcoa (6.69). 

Separately, in the electronics sector Samsung Electronics was ranked sixth in the most admired list with 6.48 points, closely followed by LG (seventh place with 6.41 points). General Electric came out the winner of this sector with 8.4 points, followed by Sony (7.01), Siemens (6.98), Emerson Electric (6.86) and Royal Phillips Electronics (6.77).

Other Korean companies, like Hyundai Heavy Industries (Industrial & Farm Equipment), Hyundai Motor (Motor Vehicles) and Hanhwa (Chemicals) didn’t quite make it to the top in their fields, taking ninth, 14th, and 15th places with points of 6.29, 5,56 and 3.34, respectively.

Overall, U.S. Apple Computer came out the winner of all categories combined for 2008, followed by General Electric and Toyota Motors. The survey was conducted on a total of 358 companies in 27 industries after surveying some 1,400 businessmen around the world. The results are in the March 17, 2008 issue.
