Crude steel output hits new high for 1st time in 34 years
Japan’s
crude steel production in fiscal 2007 rose 3.2% from the previous year to
121.52 million tons, hitting a record high for the first time in 34 years, an
industry body said Monday.
The growth in output for the year to March 31 was mainly
propelled by stronger demand for high-end sheet steel for use in cars and
increased orders from other Asian countries, the Japan Iron and Steel
Federation said.
