Viet Trung Metallic and Natural Resources Ltd Co and Lao Cai provincial People's Committee yesterday broke the ground on the project of the first steel manufacturing mill in Tang Loong Industrial Zone, Lao Cai province's Bao Thang District, with the designed capacity of one million tonnes a year, higher two times than the current capacity of Thai Nguyen steel mill.

The project with a total estimated cost of US$152 million is under the tripartite join venture of Vietnam Steel Corp, Lao Cai Natural Resources Co and China's Kun Ming Cast Iron and Steel Joint Stock Co.

The material supply for the steel mill is the Quy Xa iron ore with a reserve of 120 million tonnes in Lao Cai province's Van Ban Dist.

As expected, after being finished, Tang Loong Steel Mill will employ 1,200 locals and bring in revenue of eight trillion dong and about 700 billion dong in taxes each year.
