Japan agrees to buy emissions credits from Ukraine

Japan said Monday it has agreed to purchase emissions credits from Ukraine to help achieve Tokyo’s designated greenhouse gas emissions reduction target under the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.

Ukraine is the second country with which Japan has inked a deal to buy emissions credits after Hungary, government officials said, adding Tokyo and Kiev will now decide the details of the deal, such as the purchase amount and price.
