Indonesia might have new steel imports verification rule

To prevent illegal steel imports, Indonesian government is considering new regulation to verify steel imports, particularly to those imports from the United States, according to market source.

The verification need to specify the purpose of the import and if there are producers of the same product domestically.

With the financial crisis worldly, some US and Europe cancelled orders and by now there are about 25 or 30 US bound cargo ships which are now changing courses to Indonesia.

This act is to protect the domestic market and the officials call on for urgent action on the regulation.
