Cement demand estimated at 45m tonnes in 2009 (Vietnam)

Ministry of Construction yesterday estimated that many cement plants will start operations in 2009. But early next year, Vietnam may have to import about 0.8-1 million tonnes of clinker for grinding stations.

The country's cement demand is forecasted at 45 million tonnes in 2009. By 2010, the cement production could be higher to five million tonnes, more than the demand.

Therefore, the ministry ordered Vietnam Cement Corp, joint venture companies and big cement producers to promote exports to ensure supply meets demand.
