BPH Migas Committee member Ibrahim Hasyim said here on Wednesday the financial crisis which started in the
"Diesel oil consumption is predicted to drop because many industries are likely to be closed down next year," he added.
He said two-and four-wheel vehicle sales would be reduced as well due to the world economic crisis, which in the end would also reduce premium gasoline and diesel oil consumption.
Ibrahim said BPH Migas had previously predicted that subsidized fuel oil consumption in 2008 would surpass the target set in the revised 2008 State Budget by about 3.8 million kiloliters.
Subsidized fuel oil consumption up to the end of the year was predicted to reach 35.5 million kiloliters.
"But we predict the consumption excess will not be that high , though it would surely reach over 38 million kiloliters," Ibrahim said.
He said the prediction on subsidized premium gasoline consumption at 19.47 million kiloliters, or an excess of 15 percent from the state budget, could be wrong.
The same would apply to subsidized diesel oil consumption. It was initially predicted at 11.981 million kiloliters but it was unlikely to achieve the figure.
Subsidized premium gasoline consumption, he said, would fall due to the decline in the prices of non-subsidized fuel oils such as pertamax type gasoline which was now sold at Rp6,800 per liter. Premium gasoline was sold at Rp6000 per liter.
On a national scale, fuel oil consumption this year was estimated at 65 million kiloliters which consisted of 35.5 million kiloliters of subsidized fuel oils and 29.5 million kiloliters of nos-subsidized ones.
