Vehicle sales fall in first 11 months (Thailand)

Vehicle sales in the first 11 months of 2008 amounted to 556,267 units, down 1.88 per cent from the same period last year, according to data compiled by Tri Petch Isuzu Sales.

 

The drop signals the lower level of consumer confidence amid domestic and international threats.

 

Toyota sold the highest number of vehicles - 236,227 - for a 42.47percent share. Trailing Toyota came Isuzu with 122,000 units (21.93 per cent) and Honda with 80,000 units (14.38 per cent).

 

However, due to the sagging market environment, leading brands have witnessed a drop in sales year on year. Toyota's sales in all seg?ments dropped 6.14 per cent, Isuzu's fell by 8.8 per cent, Nissan's by 17.07 per cent and Mitsubishi's by 7.75 per cent.

 

Honda bucked the trend with a 40.45percent rise year on year.

 

During the 11month period, the 1tonne pickup market has been the hardest hit, with sales falling 14.73 per cent to 293,627 units. In the segment, Toyota remains the No1 player with a market share of 40.44 per cent, trailed by Isuzu with 38.94 per cent and Nissan with 7.31 per cent.

 

The 11month sales of passenger cars reached 202,980 units, up 28.39 per cent year on year. Toyota's sales of 96,721 units accounted for 47.65 per cent of the market.  However, Toyota's sales in the segment grew by only 14.08 per cent, compared to 47.81percent growth by Honda (71,851 cars sold).

 

Vehicle sales in November alone dropped 5.87 per cent from the previous month to 46,068 units. Toyota sold 19,771 units, (42.92percent share), followed by Isuzu with 10,208 (22.16 per cent) and Honda with 7,855 (17.05 per cent).

 

In November, lighttruck sales reached 23,403 units, 6.03 per cent down from the previous month.

 

Passengercar sales also dropped 1.36 per cent from the previous month, to 18,176 units.
