Vietnam Steel Association (VSA) on March 9 reported that to the end of February, VSA's members produced a steel output of about 237,000 tonnes, rising 2.43% against the previous month and posted the steel sales of over 257,000 tonnes, up 47% m-o-m.
In Jan-Feb, the steel sales totalled 433,475 tonnes, down nearly 29% from the same period of 2008.
VSA also said that the domestic steel price dropped by 400,000-600,000 dong per tonne in February.
At present, the rolled steel price (VAT exclusive) ranges between 10.3 million dong and 10.657 million dong per tonne in the north and 10.080-10.570 million dong per tonne in the southern market.
VSA's stockpiled output of finished steel products estimated at about 200,000 tonnes along with steel billets at manufactories of about 450,000 tonnes will ensure sufficient material supply for construction steel production in March and April.
