Steel imports to Vietnam increase sharply in the first 5 months of 2009
According to the report of Vietnam’s customs, the steel coil imports to Vietnam reached 139,500 ton in the first five months of 2009. The Vietnam Steel Association said that the steel imports increased sharply mainly because of high local steel prices.
Also, the statistics shows that Russian steel exports to Vietnam increased significantly to 568,200 ton during the first months of 2009, increasing by 46% compared with the same period of 2008.
Market analysts warned that local mills may not compete with foreign steel suppliers if they keep their price at high level.
