2010 steel sales could rise by 10pct

Vietnam Steel Association (VSA) has predicted that the country's total steel sales in 2010 will be 5.8 million tonnes, up 10 percent year-on-year.

Talking with Saigon Economic Times Online yesterday, VSA's vice chair Nguyen Tien Nghi said that Vietnam's steel sales in 2009 totalled at 5.3 million tonnes including 4.7 million tonnes of domestically produced steel and 600,000 tonnes of imported steel.

The steel price (VAT exclusive) on the market now is around 11.2-11.7 million dong per tonne. The price will continue rising slightly because of the increases in prices of coal and iron.
