PM expects 4% GDP growth

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva expressed confidence that Thailand's economy will grow by four per cent this year despite the continuing political uncertainties.

"If there is no political unrest, the Thai economy could expand by seven per cent this year. Despite the unrest, the economy could still grow by about four per cent," Mr Abhisit said during his weekly broadcast on Sunday.

The prime minister said he will attend World Economic Forum on East Asia in Vietnam, and will explain the political situation to world leaders and foreign businessmen.

"I'll use this opportunity to explain the government's peaceful stance and its road map to national reconciliation," he said.

The premier will attend the forum in Ho Chi Minh today and will return to Bangkok this evening at around 6.20pm.
