India's SAIL, Japan's Kobe in steel JV talks

Steel Authority of India (SAIL) hopes to form a joint venture with Japan's Kobe Steel within six months, for setting up a 0.5 million tonne steel plant in India, the Economic Times reported on Wednesday.

"We are engaged in a feasibility study about the proposed venture, which we hope to complete in three months. Following this, we are looking at finalising the JV," the newspaper quoted SAIL Chairman C.S. Verma as saying.

SAIL is also in talks with South Korea's POSCO to set up a 1.5 million tonnes steel plant in eastern India.
