Car exports down in October (Thailand)

The country’s car exports in October totalled 50,913 units, down 36.64 per cent on last October and a drop of 43.84 per cent on September, Surapong Phaisitpattanapong, spokesman of Automotive Industry Club at the Federation of Thai Industries, said on Thursday.

 

The export value was 22.54 billion baht, down 35.08 per cent from the same month last year, he added.

 

Car export volume over the first ten months of the year (Jan-Oct) was down 7.34 per cent from the same period last year to 690,545 units, with a total value of 321.54 billion baht, down 5.88 per cent, said Mr Surapong.

 

Car production output in October stood at 49,439 units, a record low in 112 months. The output went down 67.62 per cent from last October and a decline of 71.62 per cent on September due to impact of the widespread flooding, he added.

 

Car output over the first ten months of the year was 1,334,674 units, down 1.13 per cent from the same period last year. Domestic car sales in October totaled 42,873 units, down 50.73 per cent on September and a drop of 40.50 per cent on last October, Mr Surapong said.

 

He expected car output for the year to be about 1.5 million units, from the previosly set target of 1.8 million.
