According to statistics, Taiwan imported 377,000 tons of scrap in February, decreasing by 7.3% year on year, the lowest level since October, 2010.
In February, the US was the largest scrap supplier to Taiwan with 215,000 tons, down by 1.1%; Hong Kong was the second largest one with 28,000 tons, declining by 31.9%; Russia was the third largest one with 17,000 tons, soaring by 238.2%; Australia was the fourth largest one with 15,000 tons, surging by 25.8% and Mexico was the fifth largest one with 12,000 tons, increasing by 99.2%, all compared to that in the same period of the previous year.
In the first two months of this year, Taiwan’s scrap imports amounted to 810,000 tons, falling by 13.4% in comparison of that in the same period of a year earlier.
Accordingly, it’s estimated that Taiwan total scrap imports in whole 2012 would reach 4.86 million tons.
