The US has imposed an anti-dumping duty of nearly 28 per cent on Vietnamese steel pipes, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade's Viet Nam Competition Management Authority.
Indian steel pile exporter Zenith Birla incurred anti-dumping duties of more than 48 per cent. Earlier in March, the US slashed an anti-subsidy duty of nearly 300 per cent on steel pipes imported from the south Asian country.
Producers in Oman and the United Arab Emirates were also hit with a duty in the range of 5.6-11.7 percent.
According to the US Department of Commerce (DOC), these duties will affect exports from the four countries, estimated at nearly US$200 million in 2011 alone.
The pipe covered in the ruling is used for handling water and other liquids and gases under low pressures in plumbing, heating and cooling systems, as well as other uses.
According to the Viet Nam Steel Association, domestic firms last year exported 85,000 tonnes of steel pipe with a total export value of $89 million. As many as 40,000 tonnes were sold to the US market.
