Malaysia's inflation rate in June rose 1.6% to 104.8 from 103.2 a year ago following an increase in food & non-alcoholic beverages, according to the Statistics Department.
It said on Wednesday the index for food & non-alcoholic beverages rose 2.9% (it has a weightage of 30.3% in the CPI) and non-food 1.0%.
The department said the CPI for January to June increased by 2.0% to 104.6 from 102.5 in the previous corresponding period. It attributed the increase to a 3.1% increase in the index for food & non-alcoholic beverages and a 1.6% increase in non-food.
It said the CPI in June, when compared with May, increased by 0.1% as the index for food & non-alcoholic beverages increased by 0.6% while the index for non-food decreased by 0.2%.
However, clothing & footwear and transport declined by 0.3% respectively; communication and education by 0.1% respectively.
