According to statistics, Indonesia imported 118,000 tons of scraps in May, slumping substantially by 40.4% year on year and decreasing by 9% from a month earlier.
Among them, 33,000 tons were from Australia, soaring significantly by 572.3%; 16,000 tons were from Singapore, increasing by 206.8%; 16,000 tons were from the US, falling by 69.5% and 7,000 tons were from South Africa, decreasing by 76.4%, all compared to that in the same period of a year earlier.
In the first five months of this year, Indonesia’s scrap imports amounted to 670,000 tons, falling by 11.8% year on year.
In the given period of time, Australia was the largest scrap exporter to Indonesia with 107,000 tons, rising by 233.7%; the UK was the second largest one with 78,000 tons, increasing by 64.8%; Singapore was the third largest one with 78,000 tons, up by 19.3%, all compared to that in the same period of 2011.
It’s estimated that the country’s scrap imports would reach 1.61 million tons in the full 2012.
