Steel price report as of September 4, 2012

China Steel Prices

-          Chinese construction steel market is moving downwards. A 6.5mm high speed wire rod and 20mm rebar prices at RMB 3,600 per tonne and RMB 3,549 per tonne, respectively, down RMB 16 per tonne – source Steelhome

-          2.75mm HRC prices declined significantly by RMB 25 per tonne to RMB 3,606 per tonne; prices of 1.0mm inches CRC down by RMB 6 per tonne to RMB 4,461 per tonne.

-          China’s HRC price down. Commercial-grade, boron-containing HRC were at $500-510 per tonne fob, down $10 from $510-520 per tonne fob – source: MB

-          Eastern Chinese steelmaker Shagang cut its early September rebar prices by RMB 80/tonne and hot rolled coil prices by RMB 320/t on 1 September. Shagang’s 16-25mm diameter HRB335 rebar price declined to RMB 3,600/t ($568/t) with 17% VAT . - source: SBB

 

Steel Prices in other countries

Scrap

-          Feng Hsin lowered its buying price for heavy melting scrap 1&2 (80:20 blend) by TWD 700/t on the week to TWD 10,700/t ($358/t) – source: SBB

-          Russian scrap prices rising in south. TMK-owned Volzhsky Pipe Plant and Taganrog Steel Plant have raised bids to 10,300-11,000 roubles/t for delivery by road or rail – source: SBB

-          Japanese Tokyo Steel announced to cut the scrap purchasing prices by 500/ton from September 1st. The average purchasing prices of H2 scraps are at 26,500~28,500/ton – source - Yieh

Bar

-          Taiwan's Feng Hsin cuts weekly domestic rebar prices $23/t to TWD 18,500/t ($619/t) ex-works Taichung – source: SBB

-          The base price of merchant bar in Brescia remained stable at €190-195/t (for the 10mm to 59 mm) – source: SBB

-          Italian steelmakers planned to raise the prices of deformed steel bars by €20/ton. The ex-factory of deformed steel bar with diameter of 12mm are at €530~€550/ton – source: Yieh
