Thailand’s scrap imports fall by 6% m-o-m in June

According to statistics, Thailand’s scrap imports totaled 110,000 tons in June, falling by 6.4% from a month earlier and decreasing by 25.6% year on year.

 

Among them, 36,100 tons were imported from Australia, soaring by 13.2 times; 8,400 tons were from Puerto Rico, surging by 5.2 times; 8,000 tons were from Philippines, increasing by 6.8 times and 6,700 tons were from the US, deceasing by 87.7%, all compared to that in May.

 

In the first half of this year, Thailand imported 1.036 million tons of scraps, down by 6.2% in comparison of that in the same period of a year earlier.

 

In the given period of time, the US was the largest scrap exporter to Thailand with 278,000 tons, falling by 44.7%; Australia was the second largest one with 121,000 tons, rising by 31.4% and Hong Kong was the third largest one with 75,000 tons, soaring by 179.9%, all compared to that in the same period of the previous year.

 

It’s estimated that Thailand’s scrap imports would reach 2.07 million tons in the full 2012.
