Steel price report as of September 13, 2012

China Steel Prices

-          Offer prices of ship plate from China have slumped to $540-550/tonne cfr Singapore, down $20/t from end August – source: SBB

-          Baosteel announced increasing price of steel. Commercial-quality HRC (4.5-12mm) was traded at 3,350-3,400 yuan ($528-536) per tonne in Shanghai, up 50 yuan per tonne from Monday’s prices – source: MB

-          China’s 6.5mm high speed wire rod stops rising, unchanged at RMB 3,604 per tonne; 20mm rebar increases by RMB 4 per tonne to RMB 3,568 per tonne – source: Steelhome

-          China’s 2.75mm HRC dropped by RMB 7 per tonne to RMB 3,605 per tonne and 1.0mm CRC leveled off to RMB 4,420 per tonne – source: Steelhome

-          Shagang’s prices for HRB355 and HRB400 rebar with diameter of 16mm-25mm decreased to RMB3,550/ton and RMB3,650/ton respectively – source: Yieh

 

Steel Prices in other countries

Scrap

-          The latest European offers into India for shredded scrap in containers now stand at $420-430 per tonne cfr Nava Sheva – MB

-          US exporter reduced scrap prices by $20 per ton for all grades on September 6. Containers of an 80:20 mix of No1 and No2 heavy melting scrap sold to Taiwan in a range of $330 to $335 per tonne cfr in the past few days, indicating a $45-50-per-tonne drop since August 30 – source: MB

-          The auction held by Tokyo-area scrap dealers on Tuesday September 11, fell by ¥1,834 ($23.5) per tonne to ¥25,932 ($332) per tonne fas – source: MB

Semi

-          CIS-origin slab have gone down by $5-10 this week. Ukraine’s Alchevsk Iron & Steel Works has sold its October output at $495-500 per tonne fob Black Sea – source MB

HRC

-          Hot rolled coil prices in the UK have continued to come under pressure during the last few weeks, as themarket has seen offers from importers going as low as £390-400/tonne (€487-499/t) DDP for S275 for January deliveries from China – source: SBB

-          USD steel prices moving downward. Hot rolled coils for roughly $620/short ton this week – source: SBB

-          Sales of HRC were concluded this week from CIS and Chinese mills at $570-610 per tonne cfr main Gulf port for October production and delivery, compared with deals at $570-590 cfr last week – MB

-          Offers for commercial-grade hot rolled coil (HRC) of Chinese origin to India increased by $5 per tonne in the range of $530-535 per tonne cfr Mumbai for shipments from the end of October to mid-November – source: MB
