Steel price report as of September 14, 2012

China Steel Prices

-          Beijing spot prices for 18-25mm diameter HRB335 rebar sourced from Hebei Iron & Steel (Hegang) further dropped by about RMB 30-40/t ($5-6/t) to approximately RMB 3,400-3,430/t ($537-542/t) with 17% VAT – source: SBB

-          Export prices for SS400B hot rolled coil 3mm thick and above have moved to higher levels of around $500- 510/tonne fob this week, following the rebound in domestic prices – source: SBB

Steel Prices in other countries

Scrap

-          Average prices of Japanese H2 scrap in Kanto, Central and Kansai region were at 24,814/ton in the second week of September, falling by 1,103/ton from a week ago – source: Yieh

Semi

-          Brazilian slab exporters have been forced to cut offers for October shipments to below US$500/t fob on slack demand – source: SBB

Bar

-          One large buyer in Italy confirmed that he bought rebar at €265-270/t base ex-works from one mill and €275/t base ex-works from another – source: SBB

HRC

-          As of Thursday, Korean local dealers were offering SS400 grade Posco-origin HRC at KRW 800,000/tonne ($705/t) while SS400B Chinese-origin HRC was pegged at KRW 720,000-740,000/t ($634-652/t), down KRW 20,000- 30,000/t ($17.6-26.4/t) from a week ago – source: SBB

-          Korean mills have offered plate in the range of $540-545 cfr Mumbai for October – the same level as offers from Chinese mills – source: MB
