According to statistics, Taiwan imported 19,270 tons of steel bars in August, falling substantially by 41% from a month earlier. The average import prices were at NT$22,062/ton, decreasing by NT$916/ton from July.
It’s analyzed that the sluggish demand caused Taiwan’s steel bar imports slump in August.
South Korea was the largest exporter of steel bars to Taiwan in August with 5,777 tons; Russia was the second largest one with 4,465 tons; the UK was the third largest one with 2,172 tons.
In August, Taiwan’s exports of steel bars totaled 17,387 tons, sliding by 35.6% month on month. The average export prices were at NT$25,232/ton, rising by NT$165/ton from a month ago.
Among them, 6,052 tons were exported to China; 2,962 tons were to Thailand and 2,202 tons were to Australia.
In the first eight months of this year, Taiwan’s imports of steel bars totaled 195,517 tons with average import prices of NT$22,162/ton. In the given period of time, the country’s exports of steel bars amounted to 203,650 tons with average export prices of NT$25,076/ton.
