Japan’s August scrap exports surge by 48% y-o-y

According to statistics, Japan exported 728,000 tons of scraps in August, jumping by 48.2% year on year.

 

In August, South Korea was the largest importer of the Japanese scraps with 481,000tons, rising substantially by 93.2%; China was the second largest one with 203,000 tons, falling by 13% and Vietnam was the third largest one with 31,000 tons, increasing by 16 times, all compared to that in the same period of the previous year.

 

In the first eight months of this year, Japan exported 5.543 million tons of scraps, soaring by 68.2% in comparison of that in the same period of a year earlier.

 

Among them, 3.251 million tons were exported to South Korea, rising by 84.8%; 1.956 million tons were to China, increasing by 32.5% and 158,000 tons were to Vietnam, soaring by 696.1%, all compared to that in the same period of 2011.

 

It’s estimated that Japan’s scrap exports would reach 8.32 million tons in the full 2012.
