According to statistics released the Japan’s Ministry of Finance, Japan imported 15,400 tons of scraps in September, slumping by 55.5% year on year.
Among them, 6,200 tons were from South Korea, up by 0.8%; 3,500 tons were from Thailand, decreasing by 24.5% and 2,800 tons were from the US, declining by 37.5%, all compared to that in the same period of a year ago.
In the first nine months of this year, the country’s scrap import totaled 185,000 tons, slumping by 63.9% year on year.
In the given period of time, South Korea was the largest scrap supplier to Japan with 52,000 tins, falling by 45.1%; the US was the second largest one with 38,000 tons, decreasing by 81.8% and Thailand was the third largest one with 36,000 tons, decreasing by 11.7%, all compared to that in the same period of the previous year.
