Vietnam-Malaysia’s Two-way Trade Likely to Reach $7.6b in 2012

Vietnam-Malaysia’s two-way trade is expected to reach $7.6 billion in 2012, the Vietnamese Trade Office in Malaysia unveiled January 14.

 

In Jan-November period, the two countries’ two-way trade was estimated to reach $7.26 billion, up 7.5 percent on year. In which, Vietnam exported $4.16 billion worth of goods to Malaysia and imported $3.1 billion worth of goods from its partner. This is the first time Vietnam posted a trade surplus with Malaysia since 1992.

 

Vietnam’s export staple to Malaysia in the year were crude oil, computers, electronic products and components, rubber, rice, iron and steel, glass and glass products, transport equipment and spare parts.

 

Meanwhile, Vietnam mainly imported electronic products and components, plant and animal oil, plastic raw materials, petroleum, chemicals and chemical products, machinery and equipment, electric Appliances from Malaysia.

 

Malaysia is a large market, imported goods not only to serve the domestic market with more than 28 million people but also for the more than 20 million foreign tourists and re-export to a third country, Vu Van Canh, commercial counsellor of Vietnamese Trade Office in Malaysia said, adding that the two countries’ two-way trade will continue rising and is expected to reach $8 billion in 2013. Of which, Vietnam’s export turnover is $5 billion.
