According to statistics released by Japan’s Ministry of Finance, the Japanese steel industry purchased 2.112 million tons of scraps in last October, falling by 18% year on year.
Among them, 1.972 million tons were carbon scraps, decreasing by 18.7%; 95,000 tons were alloy scraps, falling by 4.1% and 46,000 tons were pig iron scraps, down by 9.5%, all compared to those in the same period of a year ago.
Meanwhile, the Japanese steel industry’s scrap consumption was at 2.904 million tons in last October, decreasing by 11.3% year on year.
In last October, the LD converter’s consumption of carbon scrap was at 683,000 tons, decreasing by 16.1%; that of ally scraps was at 52,000 tons, rising by 13.8% and that of pig iron scraps was at 23,000 tons, increasing by 2.2%, all compared to that in the same period of a year ago.
At the same time, the blast furnace (BF)’s consumption of carbon scraps was at 1.941 million tons, falling by 10.4%; that of alloy scraps was at 161,000 tons, decreasing by 9.3% and that of pig iron scraps was at 42,000 tons, down by 8%, all compared to the figure in the same period of previous year.
