China’s Steel prices
Long steel prices
- Northern China’s Hebei Iron & Steel has settled its August contract price for 18-25mm diameter HRB400 rebar at Yuan 3,480/metric ton ex-works ($564/mt) with 17% VAT, Yuan 30/mt higher than July’s price – source: SBB
- On Beijing’s dealer market, spot prices for 18-25mm diameter HRB400 rebar sourced from Hegang were assessed at Yuan 3,560-3,570/mt with 17% VAT, up Yuan 10/mt from Monday – source: SBB
- The average price of 6.5mm HPB235 in Chinese major markets declined by RMB 1 to RMB 3,605 per tonne on August 27 and that of 20mm HRB335 increased by RMB 3 to RMB 3,636 per tonne – source: SteelHome
Flat steel prices
- One Shanghai-based trader said a north China mill had recently closed a deal at $623/mt FOB, but then immediately raised its offers to $625-630/mt FOB – source: SBB
- China’s prices of 2.75mm HRC grew by RMB 3 to RMB 3,843 per tonne; prices of 1.0mm CRC rose by RMB 4 to RMB 4,550 per tonne – source: SteelHome

Steel Prices in other countries
Scrap
- Some dealers in the Midwest, USA have accepted lower mill offers for small volumes, down $5-10/lt for obsolete grades, including heavy melting, plate & structural and shredded scrap – source: SBB
- It’s reported that Japan’s Tokyo Steel announced to raise its scrap purchasing prices by ¥500~¥1,000/ton at its five works from August 27th to ¥33,000~¥34,500/ton for H2 scrap – source: Yieh
Semis
- Cash prices for the semi-finished product also held steady at $140-150 per tonne, the same level as first seen on August 15 – source: MB
- Billet was offered to the UAE at $550-555 per tonne cfr on Tuesday August 27, up from last week’s $535-550 per tonne cfr – source: MB
- Billet offers to Aliaga were seen at $525/metric ton CFR, while to Iskenderun $530/mt CFR was already available – source: SBB
Bar/Wire rod
- Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Steel (ESI) has maintained its previous month’s rebar price of AED 2,310/metric ton ($629) ex-works for September bookings – source: SBB
HRC/P
- Indian prices in the retail market this month have gone up by only Rs250 per tonne to Rs39,250 per tonne with tax – source: MB
- SSAB Americas raised plate prices by $25 per ton, just four weeks after a $30-per-ton increase in July. The move was quickly followed by Nucor – source: MB
- Hot rolled coil (HRC) was offered to the UAE at $580-600 per tonne cfr for September-October delivery – source: MB
- Sources confirmed that Ilva, Arvedi and ArcelorMittal are officially offering hot rolled coil in the local market around €450-460/metric ton base ex-works for end of September-October rolling – source: SBB
