Steel Prices in China

Long steel

-         The average price of 6.5mm Q235 high speed wire rod and 20mm HRB400 rebar in China’s major marketplaces both fell 6 yuan per tonne from the previous trading day to 3,099 yuan per tonne and 3,059 yuan per tonne respectively on Thursday – source: SteelHome

 

Flat steel

-        On Thursday, the average price of 2.75mm HRC in China market moved down 6 yuan per tonne from the previous trading day to 3,426 yuan per tonne; that of 1.0mm CRC inched down 3 yuan per tonne to 4,084 yuan per tonne – source: SteelHome

-        The average price of 8mm medium plate in China market reached 3,620 yuan per tonne on Thursday, down 3 yuan per tonne from the previous trading day

-        On Chinese domestic market, Q235 14-20mm plates were mainly traded at Yuan 3,190-3,280/mt ($519-534/mt) with 17% VAT in Shanghai, down Yuan 50/mt from late last month – source: Platts

 

Steel Prices in Other Countries

 

Scrap

-         The US material index closed at $386.96 per tonne cfr, unchanged from the previous day. This put the premium for USA-origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) material over Northern European material at $9.24 per tonne on August 28 – source: MB

Semis

-         Platts assessed slab imports into East Asia at $500-520/metric ton CFR Thursday, up from $495-505/mt month-on-month – source: Platts

-         Mills in Russia and Ukraine are still trying to hold billet prices at some $520/mt FOB Black Sea, one trader noted that this week material is already available at $514-515/mt FOB – soruce: Platts

Bar/Wire rod

-         Platts daily rebar assessment remained at $570/mt FOB Turkish ports on Thursday – source: Platts

-         Chinese offers to the Hong Kong market dropped to $450-460/metric ton actual weight CFR, from last week’s $465-470/mt CFR (with freight averaging at about $15/mt) – source: Platts

-         A Shanghai-based trader told Steel First that prevailing deals for plate to most Asian countries were at $495-500 per tonne fob, while those to South Korea were at the lower end of $490 per tonne – source: MB
