According to the report of the American Iron and Steel Institute
(AISI), the US’ steel import permit application in December totaled 3.56
million net tons, dropping by 2% compared from the same month of last year.
South Korea remained the largest steel import permit application for offshore
countries with 340,000 net tons, decreasing by 27%; Japan was the second
largest one with 215,000 net tons, up by 46%; China was the third largest one
with 197,000 net tons, down by 22%; Russia was the fourth largest one with
187,000 net tons, surging by 434%, all compared to that in a month ago.
In December, the import permit application for finished steel products amounted
to 2.85 million net tons, a decrease of 12% from November.
