US steel import permit applications drop in Dec

According to the report of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the US’ steel import permit application in December totaled 3.56 million net tons, dropping by 2% compared from the same month of last year.

South Korea remained the largest steel import permit application for offshore countries with 340,000 net tons, decreasing by 27%; Japan was the second largest one with 215,000 net tons, up by 46%; China was the third largest one with 197,000 net tons, down by 22%; Russia was the fourth largest one with 187,000 net tons, surging by 434%, all compared to that in a month ago.

In December, the import permit application for finished steel products amounted to 2.85 million net tons, a decrease of 12% from November.
